X-Files logoContrary to the many reports that suggest an eleventh season of The X-Files is imminent, it seems that there are still many obstacles in the way of a further return for Mulder and Scully.

Creator Chris Carter was bullish at the end of the “event series” run earlier this year, and has stated that Fox want more episodes. However, Fox chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman poured cold water on the idea of a 2016/17 run, noting that sorting out time on both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s schedules was a challenge. “Hopefully that will come together this season so that this time next year, we’ll have something exciting to announce,” Walden noted, with Newman confiming that “it shouldn’t be anything you anticipate before the 17-18 season.”
