Guy Hamilton, who directed four James Bond films, has died, aged 93.

Sir Roger Moore revealed the news on Twitter on April 21st.

Hamilton directed Moore in his first two Bond movies – Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun – and was credited with telling the actor not to try to imitate Sean Connery’s performance. He had previously helmed Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever with Sean Connery in the lead, after turning down an offer to direct the first Bond film Dr. No.

Hamilton worked with Bond producer Harry Saltzman on his adaptation of Len Deighton’s Funeral in Berlin, starring Michael Caine as Harry Palmer. He also directed Force 10 From Navarone, the sequel to Alastair MacLean’s The Guns of Navarone, and Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins.

His career began working for Carol Reed, doubling for Orson Welles in some shots of The Third Man, with his last movie, Try This One for Size, a caper movie.
