Cloak_and_Dagger_1_(1983)Variety are reporting that Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger are going to be appearing on Freeform – the channel formerly known as ABC Family.

The channel has had a recent hit with its adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments, and is hoping the Marvel show will appeal to the same demographic. The characters are described as “two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”

The characters were created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Ed Hannigan for Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man back in 1982.

Freeform has now confirmed the story, describing the show as a “superhero love story”. They also noted that the characters will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the press release is a little unclear, it would seem that the show will premiere in 2017.
