Erik Bauersfeld, who voiced both Bib Fortuna and Admiral Ackbar in the original Star Wars trilogy, has died aged 93.
The voice actor originally auditioned for the role of Yoda, but Frank Oz got that part. He was initially uncredited as the Admiral in Return of the Jedi but fans’ constant repetition of his most famous line, “It’s a trap!” brought him to public attention. He reprised the role of Ackbar in two Star Wars video games – X-Wing and Battlefront: Elite Squadron – as well as briefly in last year’s continuation of the saga, The Force Awakens.
He made brief contributions to Steven Spielberg’s AI, and Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, but was best known to his peers for his work in radio drama as a producer and actor.
