Phil Coulson and his team will be back for fresh adventures of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD next season, but there’s no word on a renewal for Hayley Atwell’s Agent Carter.
Although ABC’s description of the fourth season would seem to be more about the second half of the third year (referencing events in the mid-season finale), the cast list (Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln Campbell) makes no reference to Adrianne Palicki or Nick Blood, who have their own pilot, Marvel’s Most Wanted, under consideration for next season.
This, plus Hayley Atwell’s commitment to another ABC pilot, Conviction, may explain Agent Carter being MIA in the list of early renewals – Most Wanted could well fill the mid-season break for SHIELD, and if Atwell’s new pilot is deemed likely to do better in the ratings than Peggy Carter (which saw ratings slip for the second season), Carter and Jarvis may have had their day.
