Avengers KingJon Rollason, who appeared opposite Patrick Macnee in early episodes of The Avengers, has died aged 84.

Rollason stepped in to play Dr. Martin King in three stories in the second season of The Avengers, after Ian Hendry’s Dr David Keel departed the show and the series was in a period of flux before Honor Blackman’s Cathy Gale became Steed’s regular partner.

He was a regular on Coronation Street, during which time he also played the key role of Harold Chorley, an Alan Whicker/David Frost-esque TV journalist in the classic Doctor Who tale, The Web of Fear, recently returned to the archives. (The character is currently appearing in Candy Jar Books’ official series of novels about Lethbridge Stewart.)
