OUtlander series 2Outlander will be hitting screens on April 8th in the US, and expected to be available via Amazon Prime the following day in the UK, Starz has revealed.

Starz also released a first look at their teaser art featuring Outlander couple Claire Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) on the steps of Versailles. Instead of swords and guns, they’re armed with political savvy and the finest 1700s Parisian fashion as they embark on their new mission – infiltrating the French aristocracy and rewriting history. The new image gives viewers a taste of what’s to come in this exciting and dangerous next chapter – old world lavishness mixed with a sense of new world urgency.

According to the channel the season – based on Diana Gabaldon’s second book, Dragonfly in Amber – begins as Claire and Jamie arrive in France, hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion led by Prince Charles Stuart, and stopping the battle of Culloden. With the help of his cousin Jared, a local wine merchant, Jamie and Claire are thrown into the lavish world of French society, where intrigue and parties are abundant, but political gain proves far less fruitful. Altering the course of history presents challenges that begin to weigh on the very fabric of their relationship. However, armed with the knowledge of what lies ahead, Claire and Jamie must race to prevent a doomed Highland uprising and the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.

  1. Actually (per the Starz website) it restarts 9 April 2016, not on the 8th.

Also it is not so much “stopping” the Battle of Culloden (aka the ‘Battle of Drummossie Moor’) as preventing the ENTIRE 1745 Jacobite Rising (rebellion) from happening. In a rebellion that went on for nine months (Jul ’45 – April ’46) Culloden, just lasted 40 minutes. Even if it had not taken place, the Hanoverians still would have had their revenge for their defeats at Falkirk and Prestonpans, and “pacified” the rebellious Scots.

FYI, for whatever reason (unlike the rest of this website) comments are not allowed to the Bear McCreary interview (which, BTW, was VERY well done), but some corrections from a long-time book reader – Book 3 (Voyager) doesn’t really take place in America, but in both Scotland and the Caribbean Islands (it is not until literally the last page of the book that J & C shipwreck just off the coast of the Colony of Georgia. (do you have to give SPOILER alerts for adaptations of books published 20 years ago?). Truth be told (despite the hype) Book 2 (Dragonfly in Amber) is not JUST set in France, but in an even split between Scotland and France. Only Book 1 (Outlander) is set in just one country (Scotland). (altho’ for the adaptation, Ron Moore added an opening scene set in a British WW2 field hospital located in France).

    • There’s no reason why comments aren’t allowed- will need to check. At the time of writing the interview, the date was correct -and the description came from them. As to the locations, you’re absolutely right – but that specificity wasn’t relevant to the question!
