Broadchurch creator and Torchwood showrunner Chris Chibnall is taking over as head writer of Doctor Who from Steven Moffat.
Moffat will oversee the 2016 Christmas Special and Series 10 which is being broadcast in Spring 2017. Chibnall’s first season will appear in 2018.
This means that new broadcast Who seems likely to consist solely of the BBC3 spinoff Class and a Christmas special during this year, as had been rumoured for some considerable time.
