Anthony ReadAnthony Read, whose genre credits include The Omega Factor and all three series of ITV’s Chocky tales as well as Doctor Who, has died aged 80.

Read was script editor for Graham Williams, working with him on the Key to Time season (and stepping in to produce when Williams was ill), co-writing The Invasion of Time with the producer as “David Agnew” and later contributing The Horns of Nimon as a freelance writer. He also wrote scripts for Sapphire and Steel and Hammer House of Horror before adapting John Wyndham’s Chocky and writing two original sequels (Chocky’s Children and Chocky’s Challenge).

He was a prolific writer for television, providing scripts for Quiller, Z Cars, and The Professionals. He wrote for The Baker Street Boys TV series, later adapting his stories into a series of novels nearly a quarter of a century later.
