Merlin lost yearsPhillippa Boyens, co-writer of the scripts for Peter Jackson’s six-part foray into Tolkien’s Middle-earth as well as King Kong and The Lovely Bones, has turned her attention to Merlin, adapting The Merlin Saga by T.A. Barron for Disney.

According to the report at Deadline, Boyens is following on from Patrick Massett and John Zinman in working on the movie version of the 12-book series, which began in 1996 with the five novels in the Lost Years sequence, followed by the three-book Merlin’s Dragon, the Great Tree of Avalon trilogy, and finally in 2011, a companion Book of Magic which delved into the characters’ backstories. Certain elements of Barron’s saga are reflected in the BBC’s version of Merlin.
