Skin TradeGeorge R.R. Martin’s “werewolf noir” novella The Skin Trade is being developed as a series by Cinemax.

According to Deadline, the series will be written and executive produced by Once Upon a Time’s Kalinda Vasquez, and will be based around Willie Flambeaux, “a collections agent who happens to be a werewolf, and his friend, Randi Wade, a private investigator, who discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city.”

Martin posted the news on his blog on Saturday 10th, noting “The deal is closed, and Cinemax has ordered the pilot script. This being Hollywood, of course, you never know where things will end… but if they like the script, we’ll shoot a pilot, and if they like that, hey, who knows, maybe we’ll get a series on the air.

“Which would be very cool. I have always thought there was a TV series (or maybe a feature film) in Willie Flambeaux and Randi Wade.”

The story originally appeared in Night Visions 5 and has already been adapted as a graphic novel by Daniel Abraham and Mike Wolfer. Martin notes that he won’t be writing the script as he has a book to finish – i.e. the long awaited continuation of A Song of Ice and Fire, the basis for the multiple award-winning Game of Thrones series.
