Yvonne Craig, best known for her role as Batgirl in the classic 1960s version of Batman, has died aged 78.

The news was announced on her official website. Craig died on August 17 from complications brought about from breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver. A ballerina as a child, she worked with Elvis Presley on two movies and guest starred in a number of series including a couple of episodes of The Man From UNCLE before being cast as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl in the Adam West/Burt Ward series.

Following that show’s cancellation, she appeared as Marta in the Star Trek episode Whom Gods Destroy, and various guest star roles in 1970s series including The Six Million Dollar Man. She continued to do voiceover work until 2011.
