A fresh take on the Friday The 13th mythology is being prepared by the CW, courtesy of The Pretender’s Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle.
According to Deadline, the series will be “a sophisticated horror/crime thriller”, and will follow “a detective’s search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.”
There have been twelve films in the series since it launched in 1980; the 1987 TV series of the same name had nothing to do with the mythology established in the movies. Two separate series of novel spin-offs have charted fresh adventures for Jason. The current TV series was originally going to be penned by Bill Basso and Jordu Schell but the current version has discarded their set-up.
