Private Eye logoBritish satirical magazine Private Eye has once again tried to cast doubt on the BBC’s future plans for Doctor Who, with a small feature in the current issue.

“Fans should make as much as they can of this 12-part run,” the magazine says, “as BBC staff have recently been informed that showrunner Steven Moffat’s commitments to his other hit show Sherlock mean that there will be no full series of Doctor Who in 2016.”  Whether this means just specials next year, or a season split across the winter is not specified.

As is common in such situations, the BBC would not respond directly to the allegation, telling Digital Spy, “It’s too early to confirm the schedule for future series at this point, but the new series starts on Saturday, September 19.”
