According to a story at the Hollywood Reporter, NBC and Universal are considering a reboot of Xena: Warrior Princess, the cult series starring Lucy Lawless.
If it happens, then it seems as if both Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi will be involved, and Lawless recently said that she would be very happy to make a return as the character. “It’s an insane international character,” she told Hitfix. “They’re fools not to bring it back. It’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s action.” A writer is currently being sought for the project, which the network hopes to start airing in 2016.
Lawless has recently been seen on Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, and will be reuniting with Tapert and Raimi on the Ash vs. Evil Dead which starts later this year.
Update: Lucy Lawless has tweeted the following: “Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I’d love it to happen one day but it’s still in the wishful thinking stage.”
