The Man in the Hat is back on the big screen – and he’s bringing a live orchestra along!
The first Indiana Jones adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark, will be shown at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday 12th March, 2016 at 2.30 and 7.30 to mark its 35th anniversary, with John Williams’ epic score played live by the 21st Century Orchestra.
It will be the first time a complete Williams score has ever been played on the Hall’s famous stage.
According to Lucy Noble, Director of Events at the Royal Albert Hall: “Raiders is one of the most purely enjoyable movies in cinema history, with one of the greatest, most instantly recognisable scores.
“We’ve wanted to bring Indy to the Hall for years and we’re delighted to announce that it’s finally happening. Thirty-five years on, this show will allow you to experience the magic of Raiders of the Lost Ark in a totally new way.”
The film’s story, inspired by the serials of writer George Lucas’s youth, sees archaeology professor and action hero Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and his feisty ex (Karen Allen) racing to find the famous Ark of the Covenant before a gaggle of despicable Nazis can get to it.
Also starring Paul Freeman, John Rhys-Davies, a massive runaway boulder, a bazooka, several mummies and an ill-fated Arab Swordsman, it’s a non-stop rollercoaster ride touched with romance, sardonic humour and filmmaking genius.
This UK premiere is the first show announced in the Hall’s film-and-live-orchestra programme for 2016. Other genre presentations this year include Back to the Future (on July 4th), Ratatouille and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.
Tickets will go on sale on July 3rd, price: £28-£73.90 (includes £2.50 booking fee and 2% card handling fee.)
