Star Trek BeyondTwo of the most awaited sci-fi movie sequels have finally been given proper titles, after confirmation of the official names for both the latest Star Trek sequel and the Guardians of the Galaxy‘s return.

Incoming Star Trek director Justin Lin tweeted the former: “Let the next Starfleet voyage begin! ” accompanied by the image here, depicting the chevron originally used solely for the crew of the USS Enterprise, but which has come to symbolise Starfleet. Star Trek Beyond has long been rumoured as the title for the movie, which is currently shooting in Vancouver.

Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn, meanwhile, confirmed Kevin Feige’s comments during the Ant-Man press tour that the sequel will be called Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Speaking on Facebook, he explained that “I came up with a LOT of titles for Vol. 2. But because “Guardians of the Galaxy” is already so wordy, it seemed strange to add another bunch of words after it. I liked Vol. 2 the best, so that’s what I stuck on the cover of the screenplay – and, fortunately, the guys liked it.” He also noted that “I did not have a single story-telling obligation set upon me in making Vol. 2.”
