Huge Stephen King fan Nikolaj Arcel is in discussions to helm the movie version of Stephen King’s epic, The Dark Tower, according to reports at Deadline.
The site suggests that Arcel, who taught himself English in order to read King’s work, will oversee a rewrite of the script for the opening movie, as well as helming it. The current script is by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner, based on The Gunslinger, King’s rewritten opener for the saga. Arcel co-wrote the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and is currently involved with a new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s haunting Rebecca.
Sony and Media Rights Capital are currently in charge of the adaptation, which has been through multiple different writers and producers over the years. Stephen King’s new novel, Finders Keepers, was released this week.
