Neither Forever nor Resurrection will be returning to ABC next season.

It seemed as if Forever might make a last-minute rally, after strong ratings for its closing episode, but ABC elected not to continue. Star Ioan Gruffudd posted a message to Instagram (which can be read here) thanking fans for their support and creator Matt Miller tweeted “Was a joy to go thru this experience with all of u. Could not have asked for more loyal or devoted fans! #humbled #grateful #ItsALongStory.”

Resurrection’s second year never lived up to the ratings success of its first, shorter, season, with some commentators believing that A&E’s The Returned, based on the French series, sealed its fate.
