Shadowhunters, the TV series based on Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments sequence of young adult novels, will be broadcast on ABC Family.
The series will reboot the adaptations, starting once more with City of Bones which previously appeared as a movie in August 2013. “Shadowhunters is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight franchises,” said ABC Family President Tom Ascheim. “A New York Times bestseller for 122 consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, Shadowhunters is the perfect story to share with our audience.”
Filming will begin on the one-hour episodes in Toronto this May, with Ed Decter showrunning. No casting announcements have yet been made.
