Nashville star Laura Benanti has been cast as Alura Zor-El, the birth mother of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl, in Greg Berlanti’s new TV version of the story.
Described as “a strong noblewoman, Alura sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl.”
The pilot episode will see Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl face off against the comics character Lumberjack, who has battled Superman in the past and wants to see what sort of power the Man of Steel’s cousin has.
