octopussy jourdanLouis Jourdan, whose long acting career included an appearances as 007’s nemesis in Octopussy as well as starring as Count Dracula for the BBC, has died aged 93.

Jourdan started appearing in movies before the start of the Second World War, but after France was occupied by the Nazis, refused to make German propaganda films. He moved to America after the war, appearing both on screen and on stage, taking the male lead in the Oscar-laden musical, Gigi.

As well as playing the suave Kamal Khan opposite Roger Moore in 1983’s Indian-set Octopussy, in 1977 Jourdan took the title role in the BBC’s version of Count Dracula. His other genre work included two Swamp Thing movies as Dr Anton Arcane. Sir Roger Moore tweeted, “Very sad to hear Louis Jourdan has died. Many happy memories of filming Octopussy together.”
