Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Tomb Raider director Simon West is stepping behind the camera for a new remake of the seminal creature feature The Blob.

According to the report at Deadline, Goldcrest Films are co-producing the remake, which will go into production this summer. West told the site, “With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

It’s not the first remake or sequel to the 1958 classic, which starred Steve McQueen. Fourteen years later Larry Hagman directed a sequel Beware! The Blob, and there was a remake in 1988 with Kevin Dillon.

West recently helmed the TV movie pilot for The Saint, starring Adam Rayner and Eliza Dushku, which unfortunately failed to develop into a series.
