ScottyIt seems as if it’s a complete change round on the Enterprise for the third movie in the rebooted universe, with the news that Simon Pegg will be co-writing the script for the next film.

According to the report at Deadline, Pegg, whose writing credits include the Cornetto trilogy with Edgar Wright, as well as Run Fatboy Run and the TV series Spaced, will be co-writing with Doug Jung, creator of the TNT series Dark Blue. Pegg is a huge SF and Star Trek fan – he admitted to Star Trek Magazine back in 2009 that he had been watching since he was seven or eight years old.

The new film – the 13th in the series overall – was set to be co-written and directed by Roberto Orci, but he departed the project some weeks ago. Justin Lin is now directing, with a release date of July 2016 confirmed by Paramount to meet the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
