When ITV Studios released the first full image of the new Tracy brothers for Thunderbirds are Go!, their revamp of the classic Gerry and Sylvia Anderson series, they can’t have expected the backlash that has followed.

There have been multiple disparaging references to the new version of the brothers as looking like members of a boy band, as well as queries why the opportunity wasn’t taken to reboot the series completely, and alter the gender balance of the show, with the Thunderbird craft piloted by Tracy boys and girls.

The show is already guaranteed 52 episodes – a second season of 26 adventures was commissioned in December 2014. The cast is led by Rosamund Pike as Lady Penelope and David Graham reprising his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker. Inventor Brains will be voiced by Kayvan Novak. Tracy brothers Alan and Scott Tracy are both played by Rasmus Hardiker. David Menkin has been cast as both Virgil and Gordon Tracy. The fifth Tracy brother, John, will be played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster.
