Stephen King’s detective novel Mr Mercedes is heading to TV as a miniseries, courtesy of David E. Kelley.
The Ally McBeal creator is writing the script for Sonar Entertainment’s proposed miniseries based on the novel, published last summer about a retired cop on the trail of a psychopathic killer.
“This is an amazing opportunity to adapt a script from material penned by one of the world’s most acclaimed and accomplished authors,” Kelley said in a statement. “‘Mr. Mercedes’ is a great story that will translate beautifully to the screen if I don’t mess it up.”
The miniseries will be directed by Jack Bender, who has worked on Lost and the recent King series Under the Dome.
King noted that “I’ve admired Jack Bender’s work for years, both as a director on ‘Lost’ and later, ‘Under the Dome,’ where he really caught the suspense element. David Kelley is incredibly gifted. I’m excited to work with these amazing talents.”
