Clemens captionProlific British writer and producer Brian Clemens has died aged 83.

Best known for his work on The Avengers, its sequel The New Avengers, and thriller series The Professionals, Clemens wrote for many genre shows, including Adam Adamant Lives! and The Champions, and created the 1990s show Bugs.

He also scripted the horror films Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde, Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (which he also directed), and The Watcher in the Woods, as well as the fantasy The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.

Paying tribute on twitter, Sir Roger Moore, who starred in The Persuaders, noted that Clemens was “a very talented writer, particularly on TV”
