Rod TaylorRod Taylor, the Australian film actor who starred in George Pal’s 1960 version of The Time Machine, has died, aged 84.

Taylor made a name for himself in his native country before travelling to Los Angeles in the mid-1950s, where he appeared in an episode of The Twilight Zone before being cast as George, the time traveller in the H.G. Wells adaptation – a role he briefly reprised for the 1993 documentary about the movie. He voiced Pongo in Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, and then appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds opposite Tippi Hedren, as well as playing Boysie Oaks, the titular Liquidator of the 1965 Bond-spoof film, based on a book by future Bond writer John Gardner.

He continued acting for many years, with his final role as Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
