Outlander-TV_series-2014Outlander, the time travel series about a nurse sent back to the time of the Jacobite rebellion, has won Favourite Cable Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show at the People’s Choice Awards held on January 7th, one of many genre winners at the ceremony.

The new series – which is yet to find a UK broadcaster – beat competition from Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and American Horror Story to win the award. The Favourite Network Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV show was Beauty and the Beast, with Kristin Kreuk also winning Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress. Supernatural’s Misha Collins won the male equivalent.

The Big Bang Theory was voted Favourite TV Show and Favourite Network TV Comedy, while The Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder were awarded Best TV Couple. Former Doctor Who David Tennant was Favourite Actor in a New TV Series, and The Flash was the Favourite New TV Drama.

Genre films did well across the board. Robert Downey Jnr. won Favourite Movie Actor and Favourite Dramatic Movie Actor, while Chris Evans was Favourite Action Movie Star. Jennifer Lawrence picked up the Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Action Movie Actress awards, and Maleficent was both Favourite Movie and Favourite Family Movie.
