AfterWe won’t be seeing new stories from X-Files creator Chris Carter any time soon, with the news that Amazon are not proceeding with a series based on his pilot The After.

The pilot was one those produced by Amazon Studios last spring, and it was reported at the time that it had been picked up to series. However, according to the report at Variety, Roy Price, vice president at Amazon Studios, issued a statement confirming its cancellation: “We have decided to not move forward with ‘The After,’ ” said Price. “We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”

Inspired by Dante’s epic The Inferno, the series followed eight strangers forced to try to survive in a violent world that defies explanation. Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot and Jaina Lee Ortiz starred in the pilot, but it now appears that no further episodes have been produced.

Carter is still working on a series about Area 51 for AMC, but has not had a major hit since Millennium, with both Harsh Realm and The Lone Gunmen only surviving a season.
