Space PAtrolSpace Patrol creator Roberta Leigh has died, aged 87.

The children’s novelist and puppet show creator worked with Gerry and Sylvia Anderson on some of her early productions, including The Adventures of Twizzle and Torchy the Battery Boy. She is otherwise best known to genre fans for her 1962  series Space Patrol (renamed Planet Patrol in the US to avoid confusion with the 1950s series Space Patrol), which featured the adventures of the United Galactic Organization and which has been highly acclaimed by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski.

Leigh created two further SF series – Paul Starr and The Solarnauts – but neither progressed past the pilot stage (they can be seen on YouTube). She returned to writing romance novels for adults.
