st09logo_newAfter considerable debate over who would succeed J.J. Abrams in the director’s chair for the thirteenth Star Trek movie – the third of the reboot series – it has now been confirmed that Fast & Furious 6’s Justin Lin will be helming the film.

Lin is credited with reviving the fortunes of the street-racing franchise, and will replace Roberto Orci in the director’s chair, although Orci will remain as a producer on the Star Trek film. There have been multiple reasons given for Orci not continuing in the role, but as yet no official line has been revealed.

Paramount has now confirmed that the as yet unsubtitled 13th Star Trek film will open on July 8, 2016, to mark the 50th anniversary of the franchise’s start on TV.
