Although it’s been pretty much regarded as a done deal for the past few weeks, Marvel have finally officially announced that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Doctor Strange in the new movie.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” producer Kevin Feige explained. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
According to the Marvel release the film “will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.” Scott Derrickson is directing from a script by Jon Spaihts; the movie is set to open on November 4, 2016.
