There will only be 13 episodes in Constantine‘s first season, a report at Deadline has suggested, although this doesn’t mean that the series is being cancelled.
New network shows often receive an order for thirteen episodes, and then further scripts or episodes are commissioned on the strength of the ratings and critical reaction. Because Constantine didn’t premiere until late October, there wasn’t sufficient time for the network to judge whether it was a success before they had to give the order for an extension.
However sources have informed Deadline that this doesn’t mean the series won’t be renewed for a second year, particularly given the strong ratings for the fifth episode broadcast this weekend, and the fanbase for the original DC comic book.
All 13 episodes will be shown in the current Friday night slot in the US, and become available in the UK via Amazon Prime shortly thereafter.
