Firefly, V and Homeland star Morena Baccarin has signed up for a stint in Fox’s Gotham

Baccarin will play Dr. Leslie Thompkins, described as “a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha”. Determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, she gets work at the new Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane. Additionally, we are promised, “her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.”

The actress will be a recurring character this season, and will be upped to a regular if the show goes to a second year.

Thompkins appeared in Batman: The Animated Series, voiced by Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Diana Muldaur; the character also received a nod in Greg Cox’s novelisation of the first in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight saga, Batman Begins.
