JJ Abrams’ adaptation of Stephen King’s time travel story 11/22/63, based around an attempt to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on that date, is coming to Hulu through Warner Bros. TV.
The nine-episode series has been given a straight to series order, with the potential for further seasons looking at other historical events if this is successful. “I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school,” Abrams explained. “The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream.”
Abrams’ company Bad Robot initially looked at adapting King’s Dark Tower series but decided not to proceed. The 11/22/63 adaptation will be penned by Bridget Carpenter. “If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it,” King said. “I’m excited that it’s going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team.”
