It’s going to be a continuity-heavy few weeks when Marvel’s mid-season replacement series Agent Carter hits the air, with news that Cloud Atlas star James D’Arcy has been cast as Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark’s butler, for the show.
An AI version of JARVIS appears in the Iron Man/Avengers films, voiced by Paul Bettany, but this is the flesh and blood character. As well as ministering to Dominic Cooper’s Howard Stark, Jarvis will be assisting Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter with her work at the Strategic Scientific Reserve (the precursor to SHIELD).
Agents of SHIELD begins its second season in the US on September 23, with the premiere including a flashback to Agent Carter.
