Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Manimal is returning, courtesy of Sony Pictures Animation, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Jimmy Miller, according to a report at Deadline.

The cult 1980s series, which starred Simon MacCorkindale as Dr Jonathan Chase, a dashing and wealthy man raised in Africa who was also “master of the secrets that divide man from animal” (ie he could become an animal, usually a hawk or a bear!) In the new team’s hands this will become an action comedy.

“I think it’s right down our alley, it’s what we do – it’s tongue-in-cheek and has an action component, but overall it’s a comedy,” McKay explained. “Like The Catcher in the Rye or The Sound and the Fury, Manimal has always been one of those elusive projects every producer dreams of taking to the silver screen. I know the movie will be funny and entertaining but will it be the first film to win a Pulitzer? We’ll just have to see.”

Series co-creator Glen A. Larson will also produce. The movie will be scripted by Jay Martel and Ian Roberts.
