Although he won’t be making an appearance early in Gotham‘s first season, Victor Fries, aka Mr Freeze, will hopefully be turning up to plague Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon at some point soon.
According to director Danny Cannon, talking to HitFix, “I have a big pitch with [series creator] Bruno [Heller] about the Mr Freeze character, whose origins are uncertain. If I can win Geoff Johns [at DC] over and if I can win Bruno over, then I look forward to the moment where that character can be realized.” The show already has young versions of Penguin and the Catwoman, and Cannon admits that he’d like to bring in more.
Mr Freeze was infamously brought to life on the big screen by Arnold Schwarzengger, after featuring heavily in Batman: The Animated Series – his origin story in Paul Dini’s episode Heart of Ice became the character’s basis in the comics until the New 52. He also turned up on the 1960s series, played by George Sanders, Otto Preminger and Elli Wallach.
