Francis Matthews, who gave voice to the indestructible Captain Scarlet in Gerry Anderson’s original 1960s TV series and regularly was seen in Hammer Films, has died, aged 86.
Matthews appeared in the 1958 movie The Revenge of Frankenstein, and the 60s movies Dracula: Prince of Darkness, and Rasputin: The Mad Monk before joining the team on Anderson’s puppet series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. He also worked on The Avengers and Out of the Unknown, and was well-known for the starring role in the Paul Temple mysteries.
