Dr StrangeScott Derrickson, whose recent hit Sinister redeemed his track record after the poor remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, will be helming Marvel’s new film version of Doctor Strange.

The character, the Marvel Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme, was mentioned in passing towards the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and has been an established part of the universe since his creation by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963.

Derrickson tweeted a photo of himself with issue 58 of the comic’s run, released in 1974, with the comment, ‘My next movie will be STRANGE.’

Marvel are still trying to find a new director for their Ant-Man film after parting company with Edgar Wright, and negotiations with Adam McKay didn’t pan out.
