Stargate imageAlongside a reboot of the Sylvester Stallone vehicle Cliffhanger, MGM has announced that they are rebooting one of their best-loved SF franchises, Stargate, with the original creators, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, back at the helm.

The 1994 movie sparked a TV series which ran in three incarnations for 14 years (SG-1, Atlantis and Universe) with its own literary offshoots, an animated series (Stargate Infinity) as well as a less well-known series of spin-off novels which followed the original movie continuity. The new film will be the start of a rebooted trilogy.

Emmerich and Devlin explained: “The Stargate universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy. This story is very close to our hearts, and getting the chance to revisit this world is in many ways like a long lost child that has found its way back home.”
