In the cover feature of the new Radio Times, out today in the UK, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has given some insight into the way Peter Capaldi will be playing the latest incarnation of the Time Lord.
After some discussion of the problems regarding writing the 50th anniversary special, Moffat explains how the events of Matt Smith’s final story, The Time of the Doctor, have affected the Doctor. “The Doctor is being taught a lesson. He’s not a human being, however much he larks around pretending he is. He is different, and it’s time to stop play-acting.”
Many fans will be relieved when Moffat states, “He’s not apologising, he’s not flirting with you – that’s over. . . . Now he can go back to being a bit more Time Lordy.”
Moffat also confirms there’ll be “none of this split-season nonsense,” (the Radio Times’ description, not ours!) although there’s no definite episode count yet. Doctor Who will return “in the autumn”.
