Although both have pursued separate projects at various points during their long partnership, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have decided to split up for future feature film work.
They began writing together on the cable series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and worked with J.J. Abrams on Alias before graduating with him to the big screen on the third Mission: Impossible movie, and the two Star Trek films. They have also been responsible for the Transformers movie franchise as well as working on TV series including Hawaii Five-O. Their most recent project is The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which opened strongly in international markets last week.
It is believed that Orci, the acknowledged Trek fan, will be concentrating on that side of their work, possibly directing the third film, while Kurtzman is focusing on Spider-Man, and is attached to direct the spin-off Venom movie. Their TV work will not be affected, as far as is currently known.
