gravity-poster-ukAlfonso Cuaron’s Gravity continued its strong performance at this year’s awards ceremonies, receiving the highest number of Oscars at this year’s Academy Awards, held on March 2nd in Los Angeles.

Although it lost out on Best Movie to 12 Years A Slave, Cuaron’s film won him Best Director, alongside Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Original Score for Steven Price. It had also been nominated for Best Actress but Cate Blanchett beat Sandra Bullock; and for Best Production Design, which went to The Great Gatsby.

Cuaron was cut off by the orchestra before he could say anything when he went up for Best Editing, but was able to thank the family and crew when he received Best Director, especially Sandra Bullock, who he described as the “the soul, the heart of the film.”
