Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Tim Kring’s Heroes are returning to NBC, five years after their last appearance, in a 13 episode event miniseries entitled Heroes: Reborn.

The standalone arc will air in 2015, and will feature a new group of characters, although there may be some original cast members “popping back in” according to NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. A digital series will introduce some of the characters and situations for the miniseries prior to broadcast.

The rebirth of the four-season show about a group of people who discover they have superhuman abilities has been under discussion for some time, and the DVDs have continued to sell well, despite the show experiencing a huge drop-off in popularity during its initial run. “The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” Salke said. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another instalment.”
