Sci-Fi Bulletin: Exploring the Universes of SF, Fantasy, Horror and Spy-fi!

Sean Pertwee has been cast as a younger version of Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family butler, in the new Fox TV series Gotham, which tells the story of Batman’s home town before Bruce Wayne becomes the Caped Crusader. Ben McKenzie was recently announced as playing the lead character, young and idealistic rookie detective James Gordon.

Pertwee is described as a tough-as-nails ex-marine from the East End of London, who has loyally served the Waynes and now is fiercely protective of the young Bruce.

Robin Lord Taylor will play Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, at this point a low-level psychopath who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanour.

Zabryna Guevara will play James Gordon’s boss, Captain Essen, while Erin Richards has been cast as Gordon’s fiancee, a sophisticated emergency room doctor who is very loyal to her future husband/
