embryo-6-weeksLifetime has given a 10-episode order to The Lottery, a tale of a dystopian world where the human race is threatened by extinction when women cease giving birth.

Directed by Danny Cannon, the pilot was written by Timothy J. Sexton and stars Marley Shelton, Michael Graziadei, David Alpay and Martin Donovan. The series follows the consequences of 100 embryos being successfully fertilized, and the lottery which ensues to choose the surrogates. “The Lottery is one of the most provocative and original concepts we’ve ever seen,” Lifetime general manager Rob Sharenow explained. “Tim Sexton’s unique dystopian thriller represents an exciting new direction for Lifetime and continues cable’s position on the leading edge of bold, high quality, scripted drama.”
