Deadline has confirmed that Pierce Brown’s new novel Red Rising is heading for cinema screens, courtesy of World War Z’s Marc Forster and Universal Pictures.

The novel, which was only released at the end of last month, is the start of a trilogy of adventures set on Mars, about Darrow, a member of a lower class who manages to masquerade as one of the higher-born after the death of someone close to him. The book has been described as a combination of The Hunger Games and Ender’s Game.

Brown has scripted the adaptation himself.
