We’ve had vampire detectives, but now the CW is bringing a zombie investigator to the screen, in their adaptation of DC’s iZombie, which has been given a pilot order.
The series has been written by Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, published under the Vertigo imprint.
In the original comic book, the central character, Gwen, is a gravedigger; this has been altered for the TV version to a medical student who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. In both media, she inherits some of the deceased person’s memories, and the TV show sees her team up with her medical examiner boss and a police detective to try to solve the cases, and “quiet the disturbing voices in her head”.
